The new phase of the Energy Company Obligation scheme (called ECO4) started in July 2022, and there is £4 billion of funding available to upgrade the most energy inefficient homes in the UK.
The scheme is very generous for those that qualify, but only some properties and applicants will be eligible.
Homeowners must live in a property with an EPC Band of D, E, F or G to be eligible. Any energy efficiency upgrades need to improve the EPC rating by two bands (to a minimum of band D). In some cases Band D properties might be accepted for ‘innovation’ measures, but energy companies can only spend 15% of their allocation on properties with a band D rating, so they aren’t currently accepting applications from these properties.
If the property has had any energy efficiency improvements since the last recorded EPC date, eligibility for the grant scheme may be impacted.
