The new phase of the Energy Company Obligation scheme (called ECO4) started in July 2022, and there is £4 billion of funding available to upgrade the most energy inefficient homes in the UK.
The scheme is very generous for those that qualify, but only some properties and applicants will be eligible.
Landlords can access grants for their rental properties, but only where the tenant is eligible, and where the property has an EPC Band of E, F or G. Any energy efficiency upgrades need to improve the EPC rating by two bands (to a minimum of band D).
If the rental property has had any energy efficiency improvements since the last recorded EPC date, eligibility for the grant scheme may be impacted.
